Encore Studio for the Performing Arts
Founded in September of 2000, Encore is the only professional theatre company for people with disabilities in Wisconsin and one of very few in the United States. Formerly a long-time resident company at Madison’s Bartell Theatre, Encore's home theater is the Mary DuPont Wahlers Theater which was founded in 2009. It is located at Encore Studio for the Performing Arts at 1480 Martin Street in Madison, WI. Asside from having a home season of three productions annually, Encore also plays other venues in Madison, throughout Wisconsin, and beyond. Many actors have also appeared elsewhere in professional theater, video and film.
Encore has produced over forty original productions primarily focusing on people with disabilities. Previous productions have included To Love or Not to Love, vignettes dealing with sexual abuse, relationships and human sexuality in the disabled community, Real Life, which premiered in November 2004 and played to sold-out houses and our annual festival of short plays, Acts to Grind.
