The Trojan Women and Lysistrata
By Euripides and Aristophenes
Directed by Greg Lamansky and Eric Brandt
These two shows together make up our IT'S GREEK TO ME! night.
"The Trojan Women" follows the fates of the women of Troy after their city has been sacked, their husbands killed, and as their remaining families are about to be taken away as slaves.
"Lysistrata," on the other hand, is a comic account of one woman's attempt to end The Peloponnesian War. Lysistrata convinces the women of Greece to withhold sexual privileges from their husbands and lovers as a means of forcing the men to negotiate peace, a strategy that inflames the battle between the sexes.
