Proof
By David Auburn
Directed by Jenny Wonasek
Sometimes the most prolific things come from some of the strangest places and the most unorthodox people. Catherine, the daughter of a deceased mathematical genius whose legacy lies in a series of inspirational formulae, tries to determine how much of her fatherÕs genius is indeed true. Claire, the estranged sister of Catherine, believes that their fatherÕs work was madness and that Catherine needs to move on with her life after giving up everything to take care of their father. Hal, the young protégé, however, believes there is gold within her father's notes and wants to discover the truth behind them. ÒProofÓ, by David Auburn takes a good look at real people who must determine the importance of science and humanity in their lives. The play's title closely represents the idea that logical proofs in mathematics are sometimes unable to prove things in the real world where outside faith may be the only correct answer.
