Once Upon A Mattress
By Mary Rogers and Marshall Barer
Directed by Karl Reinhardt
"No one is getting any" in the land of medieval make-believe. Younger, we mean. No one is getting any younger, waiting for the evil queen to put her son's prospective princesses through the ringer. The king can't speak until the mouse devours the hawk, Lady Larkin needs to get to the altar with Sir Harry before evidence of "her mistake" starts showing, the queen looks at her son Dauntless just a little too closely, and what exactly is Princess Winnifred's attraction to moats and bogs? This 1959 Broadway hit that made a star of Carol Burnett is a romantically comedic retelling of "The Princess and the Pea."
