Bye Bye Birdie
Directed by Jeremy Nickolai
Bye, Bye, Birdie. This popular, Tony-award winning Broadway musical is being reproduced by To The Pointe for its third annual, summer youth musical. The production is scheduled for August 5 and 6, as well as August 11 through 13. Bye, Bye, Birdie is the story of Conrad Birdie and his manager Albert Peterson. Birdie is a rock-and-roll singer who is about to be drafted into the army. So PetersonŐs secretary and girlfriend Rose Alvarez concocts a national publicity plan for BirdieŐs farewell bid to the public. The plan is for Birdie to give a typical American teen-age girl the All-American kiss on the Ed Sullivan show. The young girlŐs family gets into the act when members find out theyŐre going to appear on the show as well. The planned publicity stunt goes awry when the girlŐs boyfriend punches Birdie on the show. She then decides to become an independent woman by running away from home but runs into Birdie on her way out of the house. They escape together but then become bored with each other. The story ends when the young girl and her boyfriend reconcile, Albert Peterson and Rose Alvarez plan to marry, and Birdie realizes military life might not be so bad after all.
