Bocon
By Lisa Loomer
Directed by David Furumoto
Bocon is a fantastic bilingual fable for the whole family. This one-act play explores freedom of speech and expression creatively using rhythms, song, and movement. The central character is Miguel, a loud mouth young boy (bocon) who is "frightened out of his voice" by the soldiers who are occupying the village. Miguel manages to escape from them with the help of his family who beg him to go North and "search" for his voice. He begins his journey to the land of freedom and opportunity in the north with a very unlikely guide. Bocon conscientiously takes a look at the liberties that are fundamental to all human beings.
