All My Sons
By Arthur Miller
In 2005 the American stage lost a giant when Arthur Miller died at the age of 89. All My Sons, Miller's first commercial success, tells the story of an American family caught up in the moral struggle between personal responsibility and public duty at a time when America's role in the world was rapidly changing. Joe Keller, like Miller's Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman, finds himself walking in the shadows of the American Dream and facing, in Miller's own words, "the great issues confronting middle-class ordinariness" in "scenes of high and open emotion." In the tradition of Henrik Ibsen and the great Greek tragedies, All My Sons presents a soul-piercing message for today, about war, sacrifice and the corrupting forces of business. MTG honors Arthur Miller in its 60th anniversary season.
