Winter Joy Celebration
By Lisa Thurrell
Directed by Lisa Thurrell
In November, we present one of Madison?s most beloved holiday traditions, ?Winter Joy,? honoring the arrival of winter and its delights. The program includes an imaginative work, ?A Day in the Life of a Who,? a kind of homage to Dr. Seuss; ?Yggdrasil?, inspired by the mythical Norse Tree of Life that holds together heaven and earth; and ?Once Upon a Winter?s Eve,? set to Benjamin Britten's ?Ceremony of Carols and Songs,? evoking the enchantment of a long winter night when a child discovers magical snow fairies. Guest artists include Perfect Harmony Men?s Chorus and performer Kiro Kopulos, with music by composer Thomas Powell, costumes by New York City designer David Quinn, and makeup by MAC cosmetic-design artists. This lineup embodies the coming together of art, nature, and wonder for viewers of all ages.
