White Buffalo

Inspired by the real life birth of a white buffalo on a farm near Janesville, WI in 1994, Zolidis's play interweaves the story of a white rural family struggling to heal, a young Native American man on a search for his own peace of mind, and Native American mythology, music and dance that adds a mythical/mystical dimension to this accessible, realistic, contemporary play. The birth of a white female buffalo is for many Native American Nations, a sign of the dawning of an era of peace among all human races. White Buffalo tells of our struggle to embrace this dawning, both as individuals and as members of the human race. Lauren Love, professor of theatre at UW-Baraboo/Sauk County and filmmaker, teacher and artist Sherman Funmaker will co-direct this collaboration between Native and non-Native performers and producers.

Auditions will be held on the following days:

Auditions will be held late August/early September on the UW-Baraboo/Sauk County Campus. The following performers are needed:

Native American Male, early to mid-20s: to play major speaking role;

Native American Male, under 25: to play multiple roles; some speaking involved, movement skills as well as ability to play flute/drums a plus;

Native American Female under 25: to play multiple roles; some speaking involved, movement skills as well as ability to play flute/drums a plus;

Native American Female 25+: to play multiple roles; some speaking involved, movement skills as well as ability to play flute/drums a plus.
