Violence of the Education
By Christopher William Wolter
Directed by Christopher William Wolter
Violence of the Education is a lyrically political fable loosely based on Shakespeare's Cymbeline. The play draws on elements of Shakespearian romance & tragedy to tell the story of a princess who falls in love with a revolutionary. Set in an anachronistic time and set in “the second world”, the play is a satirical, poetic, and darkly comedic exploration of our present political predicament. The play combines ludicrous absurdity, biting criticism and tragic poetry in order to execute an exploration of political violence – both in the form of state oppression and imperialism but also in the form of violent resistances to the state. It is a play about war, education, shopping, history, and love.
