The Greeks
By John Barton and Kenneth Cavendar
Directed by Thomas Blair
War leaves its mark on everyone – both the gods and humanity are severely tested in stories that have remained at the very heart of Western consciousness for over two thousand years. From the moral equivocating of Agamemnon and the sacrifice of Iphigenia in Iphigenia at Aulis, through Achilles’ struggle in Achilles to balance his desire for vengeance with an ethical code in warfare, to the attempts of the captured women of Troy to comprehend the deaths of their husbands, the murder of their children and the destruction of their city in The Trojan Women, these issues, sadly, have never become irrelevant. Madison Repertory Theatre believes that it is a fulfillment of our highest purpose as Madison’s sole professional theatre company to bring to our audiences these thought-provoking, vibrant, seminal works of art.
