The Case of the Straight Arrow

This is Murder Mystery Dinner Theater to be presented at Buck and Honey’s restaurant in Sun Prairie. The show is largely scripted, but with lots and lots of room for improvisation.

The scene is the Empire Prairie Roadhouse where Guy Swellman is the proprietor. Guy has hired Big Boy Besterman, director and producer, of the Prairie Sleuth Inc. to mount a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater for the Roadhouse. The Prairie Sleuth cast consists of Tess Offing, Mumbles Cash, Breathless Undermine and Lips Manwell. The night’s show has just begun when it is interrupted by the hardboiled detective Grim Brooder and his assistant Itchy Plenty who freeze the cast. Grim explains he and Itchy are here to stage a reenactment of a case he can’t seem crack: The Case of the Straight Arrow. He’s hoping the audience will give him a hand. Thus, the night’s entertainment is a play within a play. As the show proceeds, we discover that the cast has some serious situationship issues involving altered account books, misattributed paternity, and compromising videos. When a cast member takes an arrow in the gut it’s up to Grim, Itchy and the audience to crack the case. The show is a light hearted homage to theater noir.

Auditions will be held on the following days:

Auditions: Wednesday September 15 (7:00 pm) and Saturday September 18 (1:00 pm). Auditions will consist of some improvisation games and cold reads of the script.

Wed Sept 15 audition started at 7 at the Sun Prairie Civic Theater Rehearsal Barn, 550 South Bird St. Sun Prairie.

There will be nine rehearsals Sept 22 (read through), Oct 14, 18-21 and Oct 25-28. Dress Monday Nov 1. Six show dates Nov. 2-4 and Nov 8-10.

Cast: 4 men and 4 women. Various ages

GRIM BROODER: (Male) A hard-boiled police detective.
ITCHY PLENTY: (male/female) Assistant to Grim. Played ala Harpo Marx. Wears a large trench from which props appear.
BIG BOY BESTERMAN: (male) Producer of a franchised Dinner Detective operation.
GUY SWELLMAN: (male) Owner of the Empire Prairie Roadhouse, a supper club.
TESS OFFING: (Female) An actor in the Prairie Sleuths, Inc.
MUMBLES CASH: (Male) An actor in the Prairie Sleuths, Inc.
LIPS MANWELL: (Female) An actor in the Prairie Sleuths, Inc.
