The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
By Rachel Sheinkin & William Finn
Directed by Kara Ernst
"Spelling Bee" centers on six nerdy, adolescent overachievers facing off in the spelling championship of a lifetime. They compete against each other as well as members of the audience. Hostess for the proceedings is a nostalgic former spelling bee winner. The word pronouncer is a last-minute substitute, a mildly insane vice principal. When contestants misspell, they're escorted off stage by a "comfort counselor," who is an ex-con completing his community service.
