This play is a provocative comedy by the author of MAURITIUS. Four aspiring young novelists sign up for private writing classes with Leonard, an international literary figure. Under his recklessly brilliant and unorthodox instruction, some thrive and others flounder; alliances are made and broken; sex is used as a weapon; and hearts are unmoored. The wordplay is not the only thing that tuns vicious as innocence collides with experience in this biting Broadway comedy.

Auditions

Auditions will be held on the following days:

Auditions: Sunday, June 2 and Monday, June 3 – 7:00– 9:30 each night -- at the Madison Theatre Guild Firehouse – 2410 Monroe Street. Callbacks will be Tuesday, June 4, if needed. If you can't attend these nights, contact producer, Jim Chiolino: jim.chiolino@madisontheatreguild.org.

What to prepare: Actors will also be asked to read selections from the script. These will be provided when you come to the auditions.

Casting Decisions: Casting decisions will be made as soon as possible. Please be patient. We will contact everyone by phone or e-mail. In addition, the cast list will be posted on the Madison Theatre Guild website and on Facebook shortly after people are notified.

Rehearsals will begin Sunday, August 18 at 7:00 pm at the MTG Firehouse, 2410 Monroe Street, Madison. Typically, rehearsals will be Sunday – Wednesday, 7:00 to 10:00. There will be NO Rehearsal the first week in September. We'll resume on Sept 10. After that, rehearsals will be Sun- Thur, 7:00 to 10:00.

CHARACTERS:

- Leonard – the seminar's professor. Unorthodox doesn't begin to describe him. 40s – 60s.
- Kate – Her writing is immediately criticized as having a narrator no one cares about. She is constantly trying to prove herself. 20s-30s.
- Martin – A writer who is struggling financially and is afraid to show his work to anyone. 20s-30s.
- Izzy – Deemed a good writer from the beginning, she is at the center of the group's romantic conflicts. 20s-30s.
- Douglas – Nephew of a famous playwright from Harvard. He can actually write but is constantly accused of name-dropping. 20s-30s.
