Reconstituting AND The Willy Street Funnies

By Doug Reed/ Doug Reed & Tara Ptasnik

Directed by Heather Renken/Doug Reed

Show 1: Reconstituting – performances July 11 – 26

A tourist, locked in a secret vault below the U.S. Capitol, finds James Madison’s quill pen and the original copy of the Constitution. With the help of Ben Franklin’s reanimated corpse and a chorus (who may or may not be hallucinations), he’s got one hour to make all the legally binding changes he can before security arrives.

A meditation on democracy, and a hopeful vision for how much better things could be.

Written by Doug Reed, directed by Heather Renken.

Show 2: The Willy Street Funnies! – performances September 12 – 21

A series of cartoony vignettes which will run about 5-6 minutes each. Very broad comedy, suitable for children, done in a very 2D animationy style. We will run the series in a loop during the days of the Willy Street Fair.

Written by Doug Reed and Tara Ptasnik, directed by Doug Reed.

Auditions

Auditions will be held on the following days:

4/13/2025
4/14/2025

Broom Street Theater is proud to announce auditions for two upcoming shows. Two Shows: One Audition!

Where: Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center – 504 S. Brearly Street. (We’ll be downstairs in the youth room.)

When: Sunday, April 13 at 2:30 pm or Monday, April 14 at 7:15 pm.

Please arrive promptly, and dressed to move. Depending on which show you’re auditioning for, auditions will consist of improv exercises and readings from the script(s). If you have a monologue, we’re happy to see it, but none is required. You only need to attend one of the two auditions.

Do you have an oddball talent? Juggling? Unicycling? Contortionist? Prepare to show it off at the audition. Part of the reason we’re casting the Funnies so early is so we can shape the show around the talents of our ensemble.

Puppeteering skills will be especially handy.

If those dates don’t work for you, but you’re still interested in auditioning for one or both shows, contact Doug@bstonline.org and we’ll make alternate arrangements.
