Quilters
By Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek
Directed by Edie Baran
Quilters is a musical diorama based on the diaries, letters and stories of pioneer women. Written in 1984 by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek, this theatrical work takes us through the joys, fears, loves, and tribulations women faced as they helped settle their families in the prairie states. Quilters is poignant, thought-provoking, foot-tapping, and just plain fun. Seven women share their stories and songs through quilt blocks; each block commemorates an event in their lives. In its review of the Broadway opening, Newsweek calls Quilters, "a tender and moving theatre work, a human patchwork rippling in the breeze of memory."
