The Miss Firecracker Contest
By Beth Henley
Directed by Angela Iaonne
Tap dancing, baton twirling, roman candles, and bathing suits, it's "The Miss Firecracker Contest"! "The Miss Firecracker Contest" by Beth Henley tells the story of Carnelle, a small-town girl with a tarnished reputation. Carenelle is determined to win the annual Miss Firecracker Contest and leave town in a blaze of glory. With the help of her cousins Elaine and Delmount, and her seamstress Popeye, Carnelle sets off on a hilarious and star-spangled path to rise above her past and find out who she really is. Full of Southern humor, compassion and moving lyricism, this show tells you to forget the unhappy past and aim for what you can "reasonably hope for in life."
