Miles Gloriosus
By Plautus
Directed by Jim Butchart
Schemes, disguises, and trickery abound in Plautus' Miles Gloriosus, an Ancient Roman classic, which supplied comedic situations for Sondheim's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Pleusicles, with much help from his crafty slave and the next-door neighbor, plot to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend from the braggart warrior. With a plan riddled with deception, masquerades, and role-playing in place, quick-wit becomes vital to their triumph as the rescue attempt is thwarted at every turn. One of the best-known and liveliest Roman comedies, Miles Gloriosus will be a treat for all who attend.
