Celebration of Dance

Directed by Artistic Directors: Lisa Thurrell & Robert Cleary

“Celebration of Dance” will be the culmination of a 4-year project of working with a variety of ethnic dance companies. This concert will feature a blending of modern dance with the ethnic forms; Flamenco, Middle Eastern, classical Indian, and West African. Dance Companies involved in this concert will be: Tania Tandias Flamenco Dance, Sadira with Riad Dance, Wadoma Dance and Kalaanjali Dance Company. This is exciting and entertaining for the audience, dancers and musicians. Collaborating to create new work: the challenge of finding the similarities and differences and working together on stage. Highlighting the concert will be Sensameya, (the snake) a labyrinth of flamenco footwork and graham inspired floor work, Nagwas Tabla, a duet contrasting the middle eastern soloist with the contemporary dance soloist, Cycle of Life merging west african drum and dance with modern ensemble and Balance of the Wheel contrasting traditional classical Indian dance in its rhythmic and emotive form with the modern choreographic form of movement through space, expansive and deliberate.

Auditions will be held on the following days:

Auditions for modern dancers for the Kanopy Dance Company will be held on Saturday August 8, 2009 at 2:30 pm, in the Kanopy Dance Studio at 341 State Street in downtown Madison.

Dancers should Call 608 255-2211 to register. Also, applicants should bring their resumes and photos; and, each dancer should be prepared to present a 1 - 2 minute solo. Male and female professional modern/contemporary dancers will be auditioned.
