Autumn Heart
Directed by Artistic Directors: Lisa Thurrell & Robert Cleary
Highlighting “Autumn Heart” will be three guest choreographers as well as guest dancers from Footholds Dance Company. Georgia Corner, former principal dancer with the internationally acclaimed Erik Hawkins Dance Company will create a dance in counterpoint to the music. The music begins in harmony and moves to disharmony; the dance will start in disharmony and move toward harmony. Metaphors for our time, this is very much in keeping with approach and method to choreography of the late Erik Hawkins, and moves with the late modernist approach taken by both choreographers and musicians. The Minneapolis based Footholds company will perform THE BOTTOM FELL OUT…and then… “Starting with a smash, this trio vaults forward, as two protagonists chomp down to an antagonistic duel. Terse statements accelerate to driving frictions as a new awareness develops from within these personal animosities. This third force quietly manifests a direct change.” (Leiberthal) In addition, Footholds Artistic Director Jim Leiberthal will premiere a new work-- a "kinda slightly tortured pointe piece" for kanopy Dance Company’s Kerry Parker. Guest choreographer Madison’s Maureen Janson will create a physical and fierce work on Kanopy Dance Company. Guest artist Kiro Kopulos will perform in Yggdrasil choreographed by KDC's Co-Artistic Director Lisa Thurrell. This work, lush and romantic, is inspired by the legend of the Norse Tree of life as well as the colors, textures and themes of some of the early 20th century painters like Gustav Klimt.
Saint Catherine, a premiere by KDC's Kerry Parker, and a new work by KDC's Meg Johnson will complete the program.
