Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat
Lyrics by Tim Rice
Music by Andrew Lloyd WebberDirected by Karen Luher
A musical based on the Biblical story of Joseph, found in the book of Genesis. Jealous of Joseph and his father's preference for him, Joseph's brothers sell Joseph as a slave to some passing Ishmaelites who take him to Egypt. They tell their father Joseph has been killed and present to him Joseph's tattered and blood stained coat of many colors.
Joseph possess the ability to interpret dreams and is summoned to interpret Pharoah's dreams. This leads to the revelation of seven plentiful years of crops followed by seven years of famine. An impressed Pharoah elevates Joseph to become the second most powerful man in Egypt.
Back home, there is great famine but Egypt is rich with food. Joseph's brothers travel there for food and to beg for mercy for selling Joseph and for deceiving their father. Here they unknowingly encounter Joseph who reveals himself only after they have been tricked by him and he sees their selflessness and penitence. Joseph calls for his father and the two are reunited once again.
