Broom Street Theater is pleased to announce a presentation and panel discussion to be held at the theater at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11. The talk is called It’s Just a Stage: The Evolution of Queer Theater and is by Broom Street’s Artistic Director, Callen Harty. It was originally presented to Frontiers Men’s Group several years ago and was well-received by them. The talk examines the history and evolution of queer theater and how it ties in to the political climate of the times.
It will be followed by a panel discussion and question and answer session with several members of the local LGBT theater scene. Panelists will include Harty, Stage Q Artistic Director Tara Ayres, Proud Theater Artistic Director Brian Wild, and Proud Theater co-founder and adult mentor Sol Kelley-Jones.
The presentation helps Broom Street fulfill its educational mission and is anticipated to be the first in a series of lectures and presentations to be held at the theater. There is no charge for the event, but donations will be accepted. Broom Street Theater is one of the oldest theaters in the country to produce experimental and original works. It is located at 1119 Williamson Street, Madison, Wisconsin.
