Capital City Theatre, Madison's own professional regional theatre company, presents the classic Broadway musical, Gypsy.

Gypsy is speculated by many (including NY Times critic Ben Brantley) to be the greatest of all American musicals. Gypsy tells the story of the dreams and efforts of one hungry, powerhouse of a woman to get her two daughters into show business. Gypsy is loosely based on the 1957 memoir of famous striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee, entitled Gypsy: Memoirs of America’s Most Celebrated Stripper. Songs include: "Everthing's Coming up Roses," "Let me Entertain You," and "Some People."

This staged/choreographed concert production stars Broadway's Michele Ragusa as Mama Rose and Madison's own Liz Griffith as Louise with special guest director Stephen Nachamie.

Capital City Theatre is excited to announce auditions for our June production of GYPSY, to be held February 12 in Chicago and February 13 and 14 in Madison, WI. Please visit capitalcitytheatre.org/auditions for more information about the Chicago auditions.

This show is a staged/choreographed concert style production with only 2 weeks of rehearsal. It will be performed in the Capitol Theater at Overture Center.

AUDITION DATES: Feb 13, 10:00 am -2:30 pm; Feb 14, 9:30 am - 1:00 pm
LOCATION: Madison Ballet Rehearsal Studios, 160 Westgate Mall, Ste 1, Madison

ADULTS: Prepare 32-bars (or 1 minute) of a traditional /golden-age musical theater song in the style of the show. An accompanist will be provided; Please bring double-sided sheet music in a 3-ring binder, and a headshot & resume stapled together.

CHILDREN: Prepare a short song of any style (preferably traditional but not required.) Those interested may also sing a cappella, prepare a special trick or skill or tell a funny joke.

Many parts for child dancer/singers, aged 8-14 (including two principal roles) and a few ensemble roles for young dancer/singers, 16-25!

DANCERS: Come prepared for a dance audition.
NON-DANCERS should bring comfortable clothing and shoes and be prepared to move.

IMPORTANT DATES:
First rehearsal is June 6, 2016; Performances June 17 & 18 (2 shows on the 18th).
