Fire/Snow
By Kanopy Dance Company
Directed by Lisa Thurrell and Robert Cleary
Don't miss the chance to experience Fire/Snow, Kanopy Dance Company's mid-season show! Slated for February 18-20, the program will feature the first showing of "Radiance," a work by internationally acclaimed Kabuki Master and director of GORDONDANCE, Lonny Joseph Gordon. Composer Thomas Powell is collaborating with Mr. Gordon to create new music for this premier. "Radiance" is influenced by Gordon's intensive study in the Umewaka and Grand Kabuki Theatres in Japan.
In addition to the premier of Radiance, Lonny Gordon will perform etudes from his evening-length true-story concert "Ka Bu Ki-Leaning out of the Ordinary: Trials and Tests of a Texan in Japan". Lonny is the first non-Japanese apprentice admitted to the sacred world at the Grand Kabuki Theatre of Japan, where he completed his doctoral studies.
Also on the program, Kerry Parker, KDC's Principal Dancer and Choreographer featured in "Radiance" will premier "Clean", employing new music, dance, and abstract gesture. Her inspiration came from images of toxicity in our waterways and our bloodstreams.
Lisa Thurrell, Co-artistic Director of Kanopy Dance Company, recreates her acclaimed work "Come Months, Come Away." Poetry of Emily Bronte, John Keats and Percy Bysshe Shelley provides lyrics for the romantic music composed by Geoff Smith.
