Fall Shaw Festival
By G.B. Shaw
Directed by Richard DiPrima
The festival is a reprise of three Shaw works. Here are the brief descriptions of the three plays:
The Music Cure: A neurotic aristocrat is treated by a doctor who prescribes classical music played by a rather scary woman named Strega Thundridge. But the aristocrat only likes ragtime. A very funny duel of words and piano playing occurs.
Overruled: Shaw takes an unusual look at marriage. Two married couples separate and sail around the world in opposite directions. In each case, the wife of one couple flirts with the husband of the other couple. At the end of the trip, the four meet in a hotel lobby and some very funny confusion follows.
Don Juan in Hell. Young Shakespeare Players perform their original staging of the famous dream sequence from Man and Superman. In this piece, Shaw continues the story of Don Juan where the legends (and Mozart's opera) leave off. The great Spanish lover, the beautiful young woman he tried to seduce, and her father who was killed duelling with him, are all dead now. They meet to discuss their places in the afterlife with their friend the Devil, and they also wittily discuss the confusing future of the human race.
