YSP's Winter Workshop,"Dying is Easy; Comedy is Hard"

No one is sure which Shakespearean actor said it first (Edmund Kean? Edwin Booth? Edmund Gwenn?). But anyone who has ever acted Shakespeare knows the challenges of playing both kinds of scenes: those in which the character dies; those in which the actors must make the audience laugh. This workshop focuses entirely on both kinds of scenes, drawing from a number of Shakespeare's greatest plays. The first half concentrates on scenes of death and dying. The second half changes the mood, and brings us some of Shakespeare's funniest moments and characters. After you've starred in this Workshop, you tell us: Which really is easier, dying or comedy?
