Dancing at Lughnasa
By Brian Friel
Directed by Patrick Fernan
This extraordinary play is the story of five unmarried sisters trying to eke out a living in a small village in Ireland in 1936. A perfect St Patrick's Day event presented by Stoughton Village Players, the play is narrated by the son of one of the sisters, recollecting the special year that his missionary Uncle Jack returned to the family after twenty-five years in Africa and also the first time he met his charming but unreliable father, Chris. The New York Times said Dancing at Lughnasa "does exactly what theater was born to do." The New York Post stated, "Simply a wondrous experience!" You have to see this haunting play, a tribute to the spirit and valor of the past. Warm, touching, funny and poignant, the story of the Mundy family will be one you will long remember.
