Comic Potential
By Alan Ayckbourn
Directed by Doug Instenes
The play is set in the not-too-distant future, and begins in a TV studio, where a soap opera is being filmed with robot actors. One of the “actoids,” Jacie, appears to be malfunctioning, because she’s revealing a sense of humor and other human qualities. An aspiring (human) writer, Adam, recognizes her creativity and wants to build a series around her. The studio, owned by Adam’s uncle, will not hear of it. Adam’s growing affection for the charming robot adds complications and laughs.
