Collected Stories
By Donald Margulies
Directed by Stephanie Robey
This provocative play, based in modern times, is the work of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies (and contains adult content). The story takes us through a six-year timeframe in the inter-connected lives of Ruth (Kathy Horton), a professor and famous writer, and Lisa (Jean Gohlke), her admiring student and aspiring writer herself. Their ever-shifting relationship runs the gamut from mentor to colleague to competitor as they struggle to deal with trust… and betrayal.
Audiences will have moments of surprise where one character’s motives are questioned and doubt creeps in. Questions for an after-show discussion may be raised such as: Are all tactics fair game in the creative arts? Should loyalty to a friend be stronger than personal fulfillment? What are the limits of love and admiration? What is real truth in life?
