Cliffhanger revolves around Henry Lowenthal, a professor of philosophy and his wife Polly hoping to enjoy their golden years with honor and dignity as he assumes an endowed chair at a small western college. Their plans meet resistance in the form of a vindictive and ambitious young woman, and a young college student who is in danger of flunking out. When a police lieutenant begins asking questions, a series of unexpected, suspenseful and frequently funny developments ensues.
