In roaring 1920’s Chicago, star-struck Roxie Hart kills her cheating lover and convinces her hapless husband to take the rap—until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on her. She lands in jail, where she meets another merry murderess, showgirl Velma Kelly. They vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces to seek fame, fortune and acquittal. With a dazzling score that features “All That Jazz,” “When You’re Good to Mama,” “Cell Block Tango” and “Mr. Cellophane,” the 1996 production of “Chicago” won six Tony Awards and is now the longest-running musical revival on Broadway.

Auditions

Auditions will be held on the following days:

There are 10 roles for females and nine for males, ages 16 and older. All roles are open. Those auditioning must come with sheet music, prepared to sing a song. Accompaniment will be provided. Tape recordings and unaccompanied singing are not permitted. In addition to singing, auditions consist of cold readings from the script and dancing in a choreographed group number. Scripts may be checked out in advance from the Guild’s box office with payment of a refundable deposit.

Actors wishing to audition must sign up for a specific time slot. On Saturday, March 3, appointments are being scheduled at 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 p.m. (eight people per hour). On Sunday, March 4, audition times are 6, 7, 8 and 9 p.m. All auditions are at the Racine Theatre Guild, a nonprofit community (amateur) theatre located at 2519 Northwestern Ave. (Hwy. 38) in Racine.
