The Bachelors
By Fred Alley, James Kaplan
Directed by Jeffrey Herbst
Stew and John are two friends in Victorian England devoted to bachelor life. They soon find themselves in a quandary over marriage to a young woman, Kate. The friends choose to buck society expectations and preserve their bachelor lifestyle. Heartbroken, Kate throws herself into the River Thames after vowing to seek revenge on the men in another life. The proper bachelors are reincarnated in modern-day Madison as thirty-something roommates who spend much of their time drinking beer and lounging in their boxer shorts. After calling for a pizza, Kate re-enters their lives as the delivery girl prepared to exact her revenge.
As the third installment in the Fred Alley and James Kaplan "Men in Isolation" trilogy collaboration which included Guys On Ice and Lumberjacks In Love, The Bachelors carries a similar silly humor to capture life in Wisconsin. The production, set in Madison, looks beyond the collaborations' north woods roots and heads to the city.
Featuring Doug Mancheski and Steve Koehler of Guys On Ice fame as John and Stew, and Katherine Strohmaier as Kate. Directed by Jeffrey Herbst, stage managed by Daniel Peterson and choreographed by Pam Kriger.
