A Midsummer Night's Dream

Theatre LILA’s first time on Overture’s Playhouse stage will be a unique collaboration between Theatre LILA and Children’s Theater of Madison to create an original adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. “We feel great about working with an organization with such deep local roots to bring our sense of play to a wider audience and highlight our commitment to quality educational programming,” says LILA Co-Artistic Director Jessica Lanius.

Auditions

Auditions will be held on the following days:

8/18/2014

ROLES for Males age 15-20: Lysander, Demetrius, Snug, Fairies, Attendants, Ensemble.

ROLES for Females age 15-20: Helena, Hermia, Fairies, Ensemble

ROLES for youth age 9-14: Fairies, ensemble
(note: Puck may be cast as adult or youth, male or female)

AUDITIONS: By appointment. Please complete the AUDITION FORM ONLINE to submit information
and schedule a timeslot on one of the following days:

YOUTH AUDITIONS: Monday, August 18, 6-8pm

REHEARSALS: Begin February 1
TECH/DRESS REHEARSALS: February 28 – March 4, 2015 (No rehearsal March 2)

PERFORMANCES: March 5 – 29, 2015 including some weekday school matinees (full performance
schedule will be emailed with audition confirmation)

AUDITION PREPARATION: Teens auditioning for speaking roles should prepare a Shakespeare
monologue (10-16 lines) and 16 bars of music.

Youth Ensemble should prepare a ballad or folk song and one of the suggested excepts from the play to be posted online after July 20th. Memorization is not required.

This unique collaboration will involve workshops for actors under the age of 18 starting in October.

The workshop schedule will include movement, voice, and text training as well as exploratory work on character and storytelling in preparation for the rehearsal period.

WORKSHOPS:
• October: 2 days per week for 2 hours per session for 5 weeks (10 total workshops); days/time tbd
• November: 1 day per week for 3 hours per session (3 total workshops), days/time tbd
• January: 1 full weekend (8 hours) plus 2 days per week for 3 hours per session (6 total workshops)
