Always On - a short play
Written and Directed by Chris von Spitzer
In this contemporary piece, two storylines intertwine; taking place in two different parts of the world about two distinct couples:
One storyline is about a couple from Wisconsin who move into a brand new apartment in Southern California. Johnny is thrilled to finally be in Los Angeles to start his film career as a director. Stacy, his girlfriend, is in the process of applying to various grad schools for botany around the area. Only thing is Johnny has a problem. All his high-tech toys constantly distract him, causing rifts in his relationship and everyday life. Stacy thinks he might have ADD and Johnny goes in search for an answer to his distracting habits…
The other storyline, a no-dialogue tale told through stylized movement and accompanied by the music of the renown theater composer Philip Glass, takes place in a hidden Caribbean Island about a native couple, unaware of the technological toys of the present, finding a cell-phone and an ipod, and the ramifications that these objects cause in their simple life on the island…
